Giving and Your Family
Marina Hsieh and Henry Shaw
For Marina and Henry, young professionals who have recently begun a family, planning for the future has brought on new challenges.
While laying the groundwork for their family’s financial future, Marina and Henry also recognize the important role that the ACLU plays in protecting their future freedoms—and those of their four-year-old son, Harrison.
"We want our son to grow up in a world free of discrimination. We are heartened by the ACLU’s leadership role in furthering equality, and have great faith that the ACLU will use our gifts to fight future civil liberties battles. Naming the ACLU Foundation as a beneficiary of our retirement accounts was an easy and smart way to give our son the gift of a free tomorrow."
Giving and Retirement
James and Matilde Taguchi
James and Matilde Taguchi, ACLU members for over forty years, wanted to strengthen their commitment to civil liberties through an additional contribution to the ACLU Foundation.
James and Matilde were excited to learn that through a charitable gift annuity they could make a significant gift to the ACLU Foundation, while providing guaranteed income for their retirement years.
"As Japanese-Americans, we experienced the terrible racism that occurred during World War II, which included the evacuation and incarceration of over 120,000 West Coast Japanese-Americans. We have always believed the ACLU to be the premier civil rights organization in this country, consistently fighting for freedom on every front. Our charitable gift annuity has allowed us to make a meaningful contribution to the future of liberty, while receiving a steady stream of income for our lives."
Giving and Your Legacy
Phil Bereano
In the words of ACLU founder Roger Baldwin, "No fight for liberty ever stays won." As a life-long civil libertarian, Phil understands that each generation must do its part to
secure liberty and to pass on the guarantees of the Bill of Rights.
This is why Phil and thousands of other ACLU members have joined together to name the ACLU as a beneficiary of their estates.
"DNA Databases started out listing only pariahs. But government databases have already been enlarged and will probably be extended to everyone, giving elites the power to control ‘unruly’ citizens. The ACLU is devoted to protecting all of our privacy rights. After my lifetime, I will continue the Jewish custom of "Tikkun Olam" (repair of the world) by making the ACLU a beneficiary of my estate. In this way, I will ensure that the principles which I believe in today will continue after my death."
